Free Safety Report confirms ‘regulated scaffolders work safer’

The NASC has recently published its annual safety report which yet again confirms that by using regulated scaffolding firms you are certain of receiving a higher and safer standard of scaffolding practice than that carried out by non regulated scaffolding firms.

The NASC’s annual 16 page safety report is available free of charge and specifically details all reportable incidents by all NASC member companies throughout the last 12 months. As a criteria of membership it is compulsory for all NASC members companies to submit their figures. New to the report this year is the addition of the correlation between the NASC’s figures for scaffolding fatalities and those published by the HSE for scaffolding and construction in general.

“The statistics speak for themselves” states Bob Whincap, President of the NASC. “Our Safety Report is testament to the fact that NASC companies perform safer. Our safety report is forensic in its detail, we want to be able to objectively show people that what the NASC is doing does make a difference and that before choosing to adopt an NASC only policy within your organisation you are making an informed choice”.

The report analysis is based on type of accident, age of operative, cause, by company size, and type of injury. Figures are laid out in a clear and easily understood chart or tabular format, and are compared on a yearly basis.

Compared to the previous year’s report, the NASC Safety Report shows that there was a staggering 30% reduction in falls from height compared to last year with an overall drop of 19% in all incidents by NASC operatives. The majority of incidents from NASC members proved to be ‘Manual Handling’ - the confederation responded swiftly to these statistics with an updated version of SG6:10 ‘Manual Handling in the Scaffolding Industry’.
