Structure

The NASC's direction and strategic decision-making is overseen by a number of elected officials and delivered by an in-house Executive Team. The elected Council and Officers serve for two years and are made up from NASC members.

The NASC has seven standing committees focusing on particular areas of best practice, from health and safety and contractual matters to technical assistance and legislative compliance.

The committees are made up of more than 100 representatives from NASC member companies as well as relevant partner agencies including HSE, Unite the Union and Joint Taxation Committee.

Each committee member gives up their time and expertise for the good of the scaffolding industry – helping to improve working conditions and practices wherever possible – benefiting not only those directly involved in scaffolding but also those who specify scaffolding contractors.

Outputs include the production of health and safety, contractual, technical and product purchasing guidance – which are reviewed and updated as required to ensure they remain up-to-date and fit-for-purpose – and a range of resources, including this Yearbook, aimed at forging closer links with the wider construction industry.

 

NASC Committees

• Access and Scaffolding Industry Training Organisation (ASITO) – the NASC continues to work very closely with CISRS (Construction Industry Scaffolding Record Scheme) to ensure it offers the relevant and required training for the sector. CISRS has evolved considerably in the last 45 years. In addition to the scaffolding operative training, which initially was only available in Tube & Fitting, it has introduced formal courses for New Entrants, System Scaffolding, Scaffolding Supervisors & Managers, Scaffold Inspectors and a Scaffolding Awareness course for the wider construction industry. CISRS has also introduced the requirement to undertake refresher training to renew all cards.
• Membership & Compliance – this committee ensures the NASC membership application and annual audits remain the benchmark for good practice in the scaffolding industry.
• Contracts – provides expert advice and guidance notes for members on contractual issues including general terms and conditions, payment issues and evaluation of the relevant regulations.
• Marketing & Current Affairs – has been responsible for developing the new integrated marketing approach to date and will now help implement the campaign on a long term basis.
• Health & Safety – whose regular dialogue with HSE has enabled standards to be consistently improved and evaluated.
• Hire, Sales & Manufacturing – are working on revisions to the model conditions used by the Industry.
• Technical – provides invaluable representation from all the major players in the industry. Engineers provide the best advice and technical support, contribute to codes of practice, regulations and product evaluation – helping the NASC to issue regular guidance notes to all members.
