Alastair Mackenzie: In Memoriam

The NASC is saddened to hear of the passing of Alastair Mackenzie, whose close involvement with the NASC as both a member and auditor dates back almost 30 years.

Alastair was an active member in the London and South East region through his scaffolding contracting company Merlin, based in Kings Lynn.

He was a long-serving and respected member of the NASC Audit committee and a dedicated NASC auditor for many years until ill health forced him to retire.

He took his NASC roles very seriously and was known for his attention to detail and the will for the rules to be enforced for the good of the NASC’s reputation and increasing industry standards as a whole.

Upon his retirement, Alastair wrote: “I have been an avid supporter of the NASC and have always tried to support the organisation with passion, veracity and optimism throughout my time as a member and laterally as an auditor.

“It has been a joy and a privilege to have been involved for almost thirty years with fellow members, staff and officers.”

Former NASC President Alan Lilley, who was NASC Audit Committee chair when Alastair was a committee member, said: “So sad to hear of Alistair’s passing. We the NASC were fortunate to be able to use his services as an Auditor.

“Alastair knew the industry inside out and brought this experience to bear in ensuring NASC members kept to the high standards we set them. More importantly, he was a man of principal and integrity, qualities which I for one admired.

“He will be sadly missed by myself and the audit team and I will not forget the work he carried out for the NASC while I was chair of the Audit Committee.”
