Supervision must enable and support employees to build effective professional relationships, develop good practice, and exercise both professional judgement and discretion in decision-making. For supervision to be effective it needs to combine a performance management approach with a dynamic, empowering and enabling supervisory relationship. Supervision should improve the quality of practice, support the development of integrated working and ensure continuing professional development.
This guidance outlines how employers should complete their risk assessments as required by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations. As employers you must carry out an assessment to identify the hazards, evaluate the risks to employees and identify any control measures which should be implemented.
Employers are responsible for establishing an inspection regime for the inspection of fall protection equipment that is produced and implemented by a competent person. A Register of equipment should be compiled for use in managing the inspection regime.
More than a quarter of the accidents reported each year by NASC members to enforcing authorities are associated with manual handling – the transporting or supporting of loads by hand, or by bodily force. The purpose of a brickguard is to prevent materials from falling off the working platform of the scaffold where toeboards do not offer sufficient protection. The inclusion or omission of brickguards should be considered when discussing the contract.
