The purpose of this guidance is to provide guidance on the management of long-standing scaffolding structures. Throughout the industry scaffolds are erected to provide long-term access requirements and often remain in position for many months or even years, for example temporary yard sheds, scaffolding material racking systems, maintenance scaffolds etc.
This NASC guidance note has been written to reflect the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and has been produced following consultation and advice from the Asbestos Licensing Unit (ALU). Employers are responsible for establishing an inspection regime for the inspection of fall protection equipment that is produced and implemented by a competent person. A Register of equipment should be compiled for use in managing the inspection regime.
This guidance outlines how employers should complete their risk assessments as required by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations. As employers you must carry out an assessment to identify the hazards, evaluate the risks to employees and identify any control measures which should be implemented.
