The purpose of a brickguard is to prevent materials from falling off the working platform of the scaffold where toeboards do not offer sufficient protection. The inclusion or omission of brickguards should be considered when discussing the contract.

Initially there is no structure in place against which the scaffold can be tied. The scaffold may surround a structure, but it is still vital that measures to ensure stability are incorporated. Employers are responsible for establishing an inspection regime for the inspection of fall protection equipment that is produced and implemented by a competent person. A Register of equipment should be compiled for use in managing the inspection regime.
