Structure

Structure and governance

NASC is the recognised trade body for the UK scaffolding and access industry. Its structure is designed to make sure decisions are made fairly, members are properly represented and standards are set and maintained across the sector.

Overall Structure

NASC operates with a clear governance framework that separates strategic oversight from day-to-day operations and management. This helps ensure transparency, accountability and consistency in how the organisation supports its members and the wider industry.

At the highest level, NASC is governed by an elected Board. The Board sets the strategic direction of the organisation and ensures it acts in the best interests of its members and the whole industry.

Operational delivery is handled by a professional executive team who are responsible for implementing the Board’s strategy and managing NASC’s services, staff and finances.

Governance Principles

NASC’s governance is based on clear principles:

  • Transparency in decision making
  • Accountability to members
  • Independence and integrity
  • A strong focus on safety, competence and quality
The Board

NASC’s Board consists of representatives elected from the membership. Board members are experienced industry professionals who bring practical knowledge of scaffolding and access work.

The Board is led by the Chair, currently also the President. The Board structure will be updated in June 2026 to include the appointment of two new independent directors and the separation of the roles of Chair and President.

The Board’s key responsibilities include:

  • Setting the strategic vision and priorities for NASC
  • Approving policies, standards and guidance
  • Overseeing financial performance and risk
  • Ensuring good governance and compliance

Board members act collectively and are required to follow a code of conduct that supports integrity, fairness and transparency.

Committees

To support the Board, NASC operates a number of committees each focused on a specific area such as technical standards, health and safety, training, member benefits or public affairs.

Committees allow members to contribute directly to the development of guidance, standards and industry initiatives. This ensures that NASC’s work reflects real site experience and current industry needs.

Regional Structure

NASC operates a regional structure with 10 regions covering the UK and Ireland. Each region has a chair and a vice chair, appointed from within the membership. The 10 regions are as follows:

  • London and the South East (incl East Anglia)
  • South West
  • North East
  • North West
  • West Midlands
  • East Midlands
  • Scotland
  • Wales
  • Ireland
  • The Channel Islands
Council

NASC also operates a Council that meets once a year. Council consists of Board members, committee chairs and regional chairs.

The Executive Team

The executive team is responsible for the day to day running of NASC. This includes member services, audits and compliance, technical support, training, communications and engagement with regulators and other stakeholders.

The team works closely with the Board and committees to deliver agreed objectives and to support members in meeting high standards of safety and professionalism.

Member Representation

Member involvement is central to NASC’s governance. Members have the opportunity to vote at general meetings, stand for election to the Board and join committees. This structure ensures that NASC remains member led, industry focused and responsive to change.

Together, this structure allows NASC to lead the scaffolding and access industry, raise standards and provide confidence to clients, regulators and the public.
