£50,000 and Counting: NASC President’s Training Fund’s Commitment to Development
Here at National Access & Scaffolding Confederation, we understand the need to continually train Scaffolding operatives, whether they are just starting in the industry, or developing professionally to progress in their careers. We also understand that training does come free and scheduling and budgeting for training can present challenges for contractor businesses operations. That’s why NASC supports its members at every stage of their training journey through its dedicated Presidents Training Fund.
Since its launch 2022, by NASC President, David Brown, NASC has paid out over £50,000 worth of training grants to its members. We recently caught up with two members to find out how they have used the grants and how they found the application process:
Severnside Scaffolding Ltd.
Gloucestershire-based Severnside Scaffolding specialise in scaffolding, roofing and safety, and they recently utilised the fund to further develop their team. Speaking to NASC, David Swale said:
“These types of training grants are immensely valuable for smaller contractors. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to replace experienced staff as they progress up the career ladder or exit the profession. This provision allows us to manage the expenses of their training while simultaneously covering their wages throughout that period. Moreover, we are dedicated to offering opportunities for local individuals within the community to undergo training and pursue a fulfilling career in the field of scaffolding.”
Anglesey Scaffolding (Ynys Mon) Company Ltd
NASC supports businesses across the United Kingdom, and we were delighted to support scaffold hire, sales, and erection specialists Anglesey Scaffolding (Ynys Mon) Company Ltd. when they applied for the grant. Carys Griffiths added:
“Making sure our operatives receive proper training is not only obligatory but also a pivotal element for staff development and retention. However, as employers, it’s crucial to recognise that training costs encompass more than just course expenses. We must also account for the potential loss of revenue while our operatives are away from the site. Additionally, given the limited availability of local training centres, we often have to cover expenses related to travel and accommodation for our trainees. Therefore, any funding aimed at alleviating cash flow challenges in such situations is greatly appreciated. NASc’s support has been invaluable, making the entire process remarkably smooth and straightforward.”
