Inspiring the next generation: Scaffolding Careers Insight Session heads to Nine Elms

The latest Scaffolding Careers Insight Session has given four young people a hands-on introduction to the scaffolding industry, hosted at Morgan Sindall's Nine Elms project in south west London and supported by TRAD UK alongside a host of industry partners including NASC.

The session was designed to give attendees practical, real-world experience of life on site while showcasing the wide variety of careers available within the scaffolding sector, from the tools to technical, safety and testing roles.

Hands-on learning from industry experts

Across the day, participants took part in a packed programme of activities delivered by experts from across the industry:

  • Justin from Spanset delivered an informative session on harnesses, explaining the different types of fall protection equipment, their uses, and the importance of correct selection, inspection and safe working practices.
  • John from TRAD UK demonstrated the build of a basic scaffold structure, giving attendees an understanding of the components used, how scaffolds are assembled, and the skills required by scaffolders on site.
  • Ceasur from TRAD UK led the overall practical session, guiding participants through the activities and sharing his industry knowledge and experience throughout the day.
  • John from Ensise delivered a session on tie testing, explaining why scaffold ties are critical to structural stability and demonstrating the testing process used to ensure scaffolds remain safe and compliant.
  • Rebekah from NASC introduced attendees to the NASC Talent Packs and delivered an interactive virtual reality activity, with participants using VR headsets to identify hazards on a scaffold structure, reinforcing key health and safety messages in an engaging way.
Individual support, lasting impact

With a small group on the day, every participant was able to receive one-to-one support and ask questions throughout. The combination of practical demonstrations and interactive learning gave attendees a genuine understanding of the scaffolding industry, the central importance of safety, and the breadth of career opportunities on offer.

Just as importantly, the event highlighted the value of industry collaboration. Employers, suppliers and organisations from across the sector came together with one shared goal: to inspire the next generation and provide meaningful insight into careers within scaffolding.

Scaffolding Careers Insight Sessions are part of the industry's wider drive to attract new talent into the sector. To find out more about careers in scaffolding and access, or to get involved in a future session, visit the NASC website or explore the NASC Talent Packs.
