The September issue of Scaffolding Insider out now

The September 2026 issue of Scaffolding Insider is fresh off the printer and available to download here. This one is all about ScaffEx26…a fantastic two days in Manchester that saw the best of our industry come together.

This month’s issue leads with ScaffEx in Review, six pages on the biggest ScaffEx yet. With 2,800 visitors and 70 exhibitors, attendance was up 39% on last year and the event occupied 35% more exhibition space.

There is a full account of the conference, from the opening session on where risk really sits in contracts, through to what nobody tells you about starting your own scaffolding firm, the talent crisis and a project showcase that drew the strongest audience across the two days. Also inside, quotes from the floor, the Revscaff and Layher seven-figure deal announced at the show, and the Scaffolding Excellence Awards, where Dara O'Briain, Rachel Riley, Kym Marsh and Phil Tufnell joined 850 guests and nine winners were announced.

This month's profile is Chris Sedgeman, winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award 2026. Built on Belief traces four decades spent solving problems no-one else would attempt, from a £5,000 start in 1996 to a business employing 53 people, taking in Hayle Viaduct, a 17-lift scaffold cantilevering over a Penzance bus route, the Dawlish Railway Line and the emergency response after Storm Goretti tore the roof from an occupied care home.

In NASC News, there is the latest on CISRS giving notice on its CSCS licence, including what it means for existing cardholders, the planned name change to the Competence in Scaffolding Record Scheme and details of the next free webinar on 8 October. Also inside, the TG20 update bringing in returns and 1.5m lifts, the MOU signed with WiSA at ScaffEx26, the updated 2026 Manifesto, the top five messages from SG25 Access and Egress, and dates for the next three regional meetings.

Industry View comes from Andy Preston, Director of Marketplace at Once For All, on a survey of 57 scaffolders at ScaffEx and data from the Marketplace Health Index, he looks at the hidden cost of chasing work and what newer businesses need to do to win it.

In Training & Education, CISRS unveiled its new Train the Trainer programme at ScaffEx26, creating a formal route for experienced scaffolders to move from site into the classroom, with a UK pilot planned before the end of the year.
