NASC launches its first Social Media and General Media Policy
NASC has today (27 April 2026) published its first Social Media and General Media Policy, setting out clear expectations for how members, CISRS centres and those publicly associated with NASC conduct themselves across social media and in the wider media landscape.
The policy applies to all NASC members including contractors, suppliers and individuals who represent or are publicly associated with NASC and CISRS. It covers all forms of media, from LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube through to company websites, blogs, press statements and public comments made at events.
At its heart, the policy is about upholding the professionalism and integrity that NASC members are known for. Protecting the NASC brand and its values for all. Members are encouraged to use social media positively to promote good practice, celebrate achievements, support industry events and contribute constructively to industry discussions.
The policy is not about restricting free expression or policing every post. It is about ensuring that the scaffolding and access sector is represented online in a way that reflects its values.
The policy is clear on what is not acceptable. Members must not publish, share or endorse content that is technically incorrect, not within guidelines or includes hate speech, discrimination, harassment or abusive material, promotes extremist or divisive views, contains defamatory or misleading information. Any of these behaviours brings NASC, its members or the wider industry into disrepute. Where breaches occur, NASC may take action ranging from giving guidance and support through to an informal warning or, in serious cases, disciplinary action and even expulsion from membership.
Each member organisation is responsible for ensuring compliance across its employees, representatives and subcontractors.
Clive Dickin, Group CEO of NASC and CISRS, said: "This is not about policing social media or telling our members what they can and cannot say. It is about upholding the standards that NASC membership stands for and ensuring that the way our members present themselves online reflects the professionalism and integrity of the industry we are all proud to be part of.
“NASC members want the scaffolding and access sector to be represented positively and NASC believe the vast majority of our members already do exactly that. This policy simply sets out our expectations clearly for the first time so we can help members and non-members represent the best of scaffolding and access."
The policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains aligned with member needs and industry developments. Members who have their own existing social media policy in place are advised to ensure it covers the same standards outlined in the NASC policy.
