Why did you start this intervention?
We were asked by Heart of Yorkshire to attend the event to showcase scaffolding as career option for school leavers
What do you do during this intervention?
We have two elements to the event we have a variety of scaffold structures outside for the kids to use a spanner, level tape measure on. And showcase different components of scaffolding, then the classroom-based activities are the NASC talent pack items along with putting on a harness and having a go with tie test equipment.
What was/is the most successful part of the intervention?
Due to the weather (windy) the kids spent most of the time inside, every one of them engaged really well with the K nex and the VR headset.
Did you face any challenges during the intervention?
Other than the weather everything went smoothly.
Were you able to find any solutions to your challenges?
Short duration activity outside
What do you feel the impact was of the intervention?
With over 200 pupils in attendance, we had some really good feedback with scaffolding becoming an option for the future for some students.
Were there any outcomes from the intervention?
Due to the vast amount of positive feedback, we have been asked to attend future events with different age groups to lead to possible employment or apprenticeships
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The event is to show the construction industry is more than a hi viz and a hard hat
